The Big Easy

New Orleans -- Day Two.

I got in yesterday. Luggage didn't make it, but flying first class is always a nice treat. Got to the hotel, which is perfectly acceptable. Walked around a bit on Saturday, had lunch in the hotel, and dinner at a Brazillian restaurant down the road, then walked up Burboun Street, and called it an early night -- was feeling a bit under the weather.

Got up early today (around 7am). I couldn't do the neighborhood clean up, as I had no real clothes to wear out and about. Luggage arrive around 9:15 or so. After breakfast I went to the Aquarium, and the IMAX about the Hurricane. It was ok -- although the main characters (true life) were a 14 year old girl and a 40 year old man -- they would go out into the Bayou alone alot -- if I were a dad, I wouldn't let that happen.

Met up with BAD, and JED for drinks, then hit the First Timers Seminar (Waste of Time), then lost $40 at the Roulette table, and finally hit the opening ceremony. It was called Riverside Royale (at the Hilton Riverside, and since it is 2007 (007) the theme went along with the Bond films. Poorly though. The music was all Cajun, which is fine, but doesn't fit with the theme.

BAD went back to her room to sleep. JED and I went out to the AIG event at HOB, he left at 9. I went to Bourbon Street (past St. Ann). Hit OZ, had a beer, and watch the drag queens. Why do drag queens make me so uncomfortable. Is it because super large women scare me -- Rachel Wells as an example? The music was fun, but there were several people just staring at me -- I think they were trying to be sexy, but failing miserably.

Back at the hotel now (around 10:30). Getting ready to call it an early night-- breakfast is at 8am tomorrow at the convension center. JO comes in tomorrow noon-ish.

No photos yet, as I didn't bring my camera dock-- oh well.

Mileage Plus, plus a list...or two

So I'm completely obsessed with acruing airline miles lately. Why? I don't know. Obviously I want to acheive premier status again, and of course to get enough miles to get a first class ticket to Europe, Austrialia, or Asia. Right now I'm at 51K miles -- with the number of flights that I currently have scheduled I'll have 60K miles shortly. Probably closer to 70k by the end of the year.

Joi-Z made a list of 100 things about her -- maybe I'll do that sometime, maybe I won't. But in the mean time, here is a list of words that I cannot stand:

1) Moist
2) Ointment
3) Squat
4) Panties
5) Webinar (now that isn't a word -- so stop using it)

I'm also going to start compiling a list of the most wonderful things in the world. The first two I am stealing from Amy Code (where is she now?)

1) A ice cold beer in a very hot shower (seriously, try it, seriously!)
2) Gift wrap -- if a store offers free gift wrapping - do it. Even if you are buying yourself a pair of underwear, get it wrapped. It'll turn a random Thursday into Christmas.

Here is a pic of me and Kelly at the CPA Gala. I didn't have a fun time at the event. Next year I think I'll skip the event -- save the money for a trip to Spain...who wants to join me?

I'm back -- and have been for a while...

So, I'm back from vacation, and a ton has happened. I'll get back to my daily posts starting today. I'll give a quick over view of my time since my last post--

* Trinidad was a blast -- it's always great to see EAD (will put together a travel blog, and photo blog soon-ish)

* BH came to visit for about 13 hours -- it was great to see her too - did the Japonais dinner thing, and the evening cocktails and conversation thing

* I'll be spending quite a bit of time in OR over the next several weeks -- LDN is sick, so I'll be back taking care of associated issues

* I'm off to New Orleans on Saturday for a week for work

* I'm off to Oregon on 5/11/07 returning on 5/14/07 at the earliest

Now I'm going to run and update my Trinidad photos so people will stop harassing me about them...ugh. I also have to finish my travel journal before my trip to New Orleans...

And they're off...

Tomorrow at this time I'll be on a flight to Trinidad. I can't wait. BD stopped by tonight to pick up Lilly. The poor little girl knew she was going away, and she was crying like I've never heard before. BD's big plan is to have her husband fall in love with Lilly and then they will get a Tonk as well. Hope it goes well. This pic is the first one of hopefully many for a photo blog of my trip to T&T. As you can see Lilly was a little curious about her carrier.

Be back next week...

T Minus 36 Hours

Today is Monday April 9, 2007. Today it snowed. It didn't stick, but it snowed for several hours today. This was the view as I walked to the bus stop today. Not the greatest pix, but you can see the snow a bit -- plus the bus was at the corner already, and I didn't want to wait in the blizzard. :)

In 36 hours from now I'll be on a flight to Trinidad, well, technically to San Juan, Puerto Rico, en route to Trinidad. I can't wait to get away. It seems like it has been forever since I've had a vacation without family, just dear friends--was in SFO in February, but before that, it was February 2006, 3.5 days in LA, and before that the April prior in Denver -- anyway, I don't take enough vacations. I spend a week at home at Christmas, but that doesn't really seem like a vacation -- I'm always checking email (both personal and work), and am tethered to my mobile. I'm excited to step off the grid for a while.

Planning a trip to Vegas in early June, if anyone is interested -- Thursday night through Sunday late afternoon -- first or second weekend. Call me to discuss -- come one come all.

One more post until I leave. Don't forget to miss me.

Lunch in the Heartland

Yesterday TS and I went to the Heartland Cafe up in Rogers Park. Although it was in the heart of the city, it felt like we were at a roadside diner along a country road somewhere 100 miles from a City. Food was acceptable. Had a buffalo Philly Cheese Steak -- very full of gristle.

Went to pick up some of stuff for Lilly's adventure along the North Shore. BD comes to pick her up on Tuesday. Hope she doesn't pee all over the place and tear up the house (Lilly that is, not BD).

I went into the office and put in about 3.5 hours today. Gotta work additional two days for every single vacation day you take -- how horrific.

The New Miss America?

So I had a startling thought today. I think Rosie O'Donnell is the new Miss America. She typifies what the world thinks of Americans:
1) Fat
2) Loud and obnoxious
3) Un-enlightened (semi-educated, but anti-intellectual)
4) Unwilling to hear alternative view points

The worst part about this revelation, is that I agreed with Bill O'Reily (I never thought I'd say that!)--when O'Reily called Rosie a "Blithering Idiot".

Anyway, let's do something about being a country of big fat loud obnoxious uneducated cows, shall we?

April Showers Bring Frostbite and Ear Infections

Today it is snowing. Not a lot, but in April, snow is snow. It was nearly 70 degrees yesterday at 7pm -- by midnight it was 32 degrees. The wind is whipping today. In 7 days I'll be en route to Trinidad to see EAD. I'm very excited. While in Trinidad I'll be nearly completely disconnected -- No Mobile, No Internet. I haven't been completely disconnected since I got my first mobile when I was 15.

I've made a list of a couple things I want to do while in Trinidad. EAD responded by saying a couple of those options were a no go--too dangerous, not enough time. My main goal is to relax, spend time in the warm water, have good food, good drink, and spend time with a dear friend.

I'll be journaling every day while I travel -- I picked up a nice bound journal for my travels. I plan on transcribing my exact travel thoughts to a Trinidad Blog once I return. I'm sure you are excited, eh?

Work -- A paycheck or a gathering of friends who wouldn't be

I like my job. What do I do, you may ask? I handle the insurance program for a large publicly traded business services firm. I'm not sure if I actually like the work that I do, or if I like (some of) the people I work with. When JO and BD aren't in the office, it really seems to drag, and I struggle with making it through the whole day.

I didn't go to the gym tonight. I just sat and watched the clock tick by until it was too late.

Got word that a good friend is coming to visit for a while later in the month. BH is a good egg, and I wish I could see her more.

What's up for tomorrow--tons of meetings, business lunch, CPA Restaurant Run, Gym, Sleep.

Goose and Target

Friday I went out with co-workers JO and SR. SR and I had 5 Grey Goose Martinis each, and JO had 2 T-10's and about a dozen beers. I was surprisingly less intoxicated than I really should have been. My goals for post-work Friday were to go tanning (to get a nice undercoat before Trinidad and Tobago - more on that later), and to go to Target for misc. Target junk. Obviously the tanning didn't happen, but SR and I did hit Target. The staff was very excited to see two drunks come in 25 minutes before the store closed. By the time I got home I was feeling remarkably sober.
