Guests and Work and Sushi

Next weekend EAD and JFB will be visiting me. I cannot wait. I a, still looking for a new duvet cover for the guestroom. I went to Target today and was horribly disappointed. I found nothing. I have this weekend to track some additional items down for the boys. I cannot wait until they are here. It has been too long. I think the last time I saw both boys in Chicago was in 2005.

I am sure we will have some fun, drunken times ahead of us, as always.

This week at work has been a bit hectic. Can't really get into here, but it does cause me angst and frustration. All should be solved withing 4-6 weeks.

Tonight I am going to dinner with Mike. We are going out for sushi. I love sushi. We are going to Agami in my neighborhood. We went out for drinks on Tuesday. We also had "the talk" about exclusivity. We have decided not to see other it looks like we are officially coupled. :)

Leaving on a (small regional) jet plane...

But, I do know when I will be back again...and that is Sunday mid afternoon.

I am en route to ORD for a weekend to see JDE and JXC in DC. I am excited to see their new home, in the Brookland neighborhood of DC. The plan for the weekend is pretty low key: food, drink, shopping, repeat.

As usual I am sitting on the train heading to on of my happy places-O'Hare. I still love to travel. I wish I could travel more, even for work. When I saw "Up In The Air" last weekend, I really felt connected to Clooney's character when it ca,e to flying. It is a freeing experience, if you do it regularly. I never (well almost never) feel any stress. It is my home.

I am proud of myself on this trip too. I am not bringing my old work horse Victronix red roll-a-board suitcase (which I always check). I am bringing a relatively new weekender duffle. I got it at the coach outlet in Oregon (yay no sales tax!) For nearly 80% off. I love it. It's great for a quick weekend trip (DC is only about 42 hours), but not ok for much longer...maybe time in the dessert with the boys but that is it.

Speaking of, EAD and JFB are coming to town in 2 weeks and I cannot wait. They are going to meet Mike...that's big in my mind. I have always thought of EAD and JFB as people I would retire next to and hopefully die 3 minutes before they do. I am looking forward to more of the "meetings". It will be a great experience.

We are still taking it slow though. We've been seeing each other for nearly 2 months, but aren't pretending this is something huge right now. I met two of his friends and he will meet mine. I haven't told my mom about him yet...mostly because I feel it is like a divorced dad bringing a new gf into meet the kids...if it doesn't work out, that's more issues for the family to deal with.

Am I crazy? I don't know, but I am trying to follow that old mantra "Dance like no one is watching and love like you've never been hurt before"....or something like that.

I do know that I am 2 stops from ORD, so I am signing off.

Have a great MLK weekend everyone.

Not a Normal January

In Januarys past, I have spent the month catching up on my Netflix queue, sleep and planning a late winter trip. The Fall/Holiday Season in Chicago is always very busy - so many private, business, charity and holiday parties, I find myself very busy and never at home. I've always hated January because it is such a hard stop on the events -- goes from 5 events a week to 2 events a month.
This month has been different -- I've been more busy in the evenings, which makes the frigid month move ahead a bit quicker. Today I've been pretty productive -- I got up at 7:30 and worked for a couple of hours. I even popped over to the Salvation Army to find a nightstand for the guest room, couldn't find one though. My mom found another chair to use in her room as an office/vanity chair. It doesn't match (or go with) anything she has, but she likes it. It's a wooden chair, so I'm not concerned about the filthy Salvation Army stink getting into my house.
EAD and JFB are staying with me at the end of the month, which I can't wait for. I've got 3 weeks to fix up the guest room. I'm not doing anything major -- not going to paint or anything crazy like that. The guest room only has a bed and a dresser in it now. There isn't much room for anything else; I probably can't fit a chair and a night stand. I think I'm going to just go with a night stand. The closet has been designed by the California Closet people, so there is plenty of room in there for guests.
Mike and I are going out today do to a bit of shopping -- I'm going to pick up a night stand, a new duvet cover and some other linens for the bath and bed. Then going to dinner some place in Andersonville.

Winter is officially here

Chicago has 5 seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn, the Holidays and Winter. The holidays are over, so now we are stuck with winter. We are queued up to get 6-9 inches of snow through this evening. I am not hoding my breath though. Very rarely does that much snow actually hit the City proper. I wait excitedly to see the mess that tonights rush hour brings.

So, I am still seeing Mike. We've gone on about 6 dates if my math is correct. Going to dinner again tonight, assuming the snow doesn't preclude that. We took, what I take to be a big step in this modern-tech-centric world: we removed our profiles from Things are going well and we are taking things slowly...not like a couple of lesbians...we haven't purchased an historic bungalow which we are currently rehabbing...nope.

Work is heating up again, as the weather cools I get busy. I am working with the boys (EAD & JFB) to plan a week in PSP. Based on my work travel schedule, I will probably only fly about 25K-35K miles this year. Ugh. I will be going to Portland twice this year. Once to see friends (JLPB, JB, AB, BH and a few others), then a second time to partake in JDEs wedding. All you Portlanders (including the valley) let me know when in spring is good or bad for you. I was think either early April or May. Thoughts?

The bus is slow today, but my big moonshoe overshoes are great! Warm, dry and salt free. Go get some...and if you are still making fun of me, go fuck yourself.
